Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!!!
"Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge" -Carl Sagan
Our class website is one tool among many that will lead to success in this class. So, get to know it well, and use it daily for the latest news, announcements, assignments and much more for our class.
I believe education is a game changer, a powerful tool that can open up many opportunities. We have to challenge the status quo that education is just studying facts and memorizing information, but that it is actually creating, analyzing, problem solving and growing. Really thinking.
I believe every student should be challenged and pushed to do their best. Every student has the potential to accomplish great things, some just don't know it yet. I want to guide those who realize it and help those who don't, see what they can really do. As we start a new school year, I look forward to working with both students and parents to ensure the best for each and every student. I promise to do my best to help every student be successful.
This class is about learning and understanding, not points and grades. Yes, points and grades are a byproduct of a students understanding, but too many times they are all a student cares about. If they focus on understanding, they will do the assignments, and if they do the assignments they will get great scores on tests and if they get great scores on tests, they will get the grades.

A little bit about our class...Biology is life... and life offers many opportunities for living and studying it. As the world changes and grows (and boy is it changing and growing), it is important that we keep an open mind and remain curious about the world around us. This is especially important for each and every up coming generation. It is also an idea at the very core of science.
Class Mission The mission of our class is to help students grow; academically and personally. Yes our focus will be biology, but there will be many life lessons along the way. Students will be supplied with basic biological and life knowledge that they may use to make more informed decisions about themselves and the world around them. Each student will be challenged to work to their potential, learn to work cooperatively in groups, build relationships with their peers, and take on the responsibility of completing their assignments and earning their grade in the class. |

About the teacher...
Teaching Experience I have been in education for approximately 21 years. I was a special education aid for 4 years right out of high school and I have been teaching science the last 16 years. This is the start of my 15th year teaching biology at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. I am also honored to have received 2012-2103 Teacher of the Year for ERHS.

EducationI received a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of California Riverside and my teaching credential from California State University San Bernardino. I also have a Masters in Educational Administration from Concordia University.

Outside the classroomI love adventure and trying/learning new things. Camping, hiking and mud runs are three of my favorite pastimes. I especially enjoy traveling! All of this is made better when done with my two awesome kids (daughter who is 17 and son who is 12). Life's ups and downs have taught me many lessons, and most importantly "Carpe diem!!!"
